Time for Salt Ctrystals

I felt that doing the salt crystals was a good choice for my time project because it required time for the salt to form into crystals. If I was to display this installation it would have to still be shown underwater, or I would gently place the larger crystals onto a small platform. For now I want to show every crystal that has formed within the 24 hours, so I left it in the mug which is my installation for now.

The finished product after a 24 hour wait.

This is a project I remember doing as a little kid that required a wait time and patience. I started with some regular household salt, 1 cup of water, a mug, 4 paper clips and some twine.

After heating the water to a boil I added a couple tablespoons of salt. I would then begin to stir the water and salt together until dissolved.

Stirring......

After that I suspended the paperclips with the twine and a pen to sit in the water but not in the salt as it settled.
